This test determines if you are pregnant by confirming the presence of the pregnancy hormone in your blood. Known as hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), the pregnancy hormone is produced by the placenta and increases steadily throughout the first trimester (8-10 weeks) of a normal pregnancy.
This test is qualitative and only detects the presence of hCG in your blood. Please note that this test is not quantitative and therefore does not measure the amount of hCG. If you would like more information about your hCG levels, it is recommended that you follow up with a physician or OB-GYN.
This test does not require fasting.
