These tests measure levels of iron, a key nutrient for energy and healthy skin, hair, and nails. Iron is an essential mineral that your red blood cells need to transport oxygen throughout your body. When iron levels are too low this can result in iron deficiency anemia (decreased red blood cells). You may experience fatigue, shortness of breath, headaches, hair loss, and other symptoms. The Total Iron test measures the amount of iron in the blood, while the TIBC test measures the blood’s capacity to carry iron.
This test does not require fasting.
